Academia de Idiomas Escazœ is a school dedicated to teaching Spanish as a second language and Latin-American culture. We have designed language programs for a variety of student needs, language levels and learning styles. Costa Rica is an excellent choice for learning Spanish. The people, in general, are highly educated and hence, speak Spanish well and correctly. Moreover, the people in this upscale area have an above average educational level. Thus, the possibility for meeting well-educated individuals with whom to practice your Spanish is a real one.

Our school is located in Escazœ, a charming,
chic, romantic and virtually crime-free town 4 miles (7 kilometers) from
downtown San JosŽ, the capital of Costa Rica. Escazœ is a
thriving community nestled in the mountains and its essence reflects the
heartbeat of Costa Rica. Within our complex there are restaurants, theaters,
banks, a travel agency, and other stores. Also, we are close to shopping
centers, popular fast food franchises and public transportation. Its close
proximity to downtown San JosŽ (10 minutes) allows the traveller
to enjoy all the cosmopolitan conveniences, facilities, and cultural events
of the Capital, while staying and studying in a highly desirable area. Escazœ
is centrally located for your weekend getaways to most beaches, volcanoes,
natural parks, and tourist attractions. No other school in Costa Rica offers
you so many varied options while you study.

Our program is based on the "Total Immersion Method" which assures a comprehensive approach to the language. We will give you a placement test on your first day. Afterwards, you will become part of a small group which have an average of 4 students. Depending on student interest and knowledge we will develop the lessons from various perspectives (business, cultural, current events, etc.) We also use grammar, conversation, audio-visual, and reading techniques. The director will personally supervise the academic development of each group, and he will be available to address any questions or requests. Your progress will be constantly monitored.
We have found that teachers with a working knowledge of the student's native language can connect better with them. As mentioned before, with the Total Immersion Method classes are held strictly in Spanish. Nevertheless, when possible and feasible we may be able to give instructions in English, Portuguese, French, German, or Italian instead of Spanish.

Often called the Switzerland of Central America, Costa
Rica enjoys having the second highest standard of living in Latin-America,
and one of the highest literacy rates in the world. Costa Rica's advancements
in medicine, education, and environmental protection have been made possible
because it is one of the few countries without an army. Most tourists leave
the country with a favorable impression of the people who often go out of
their way to make you feel at home.

We care about our students. We are a medium-sized academy and give every student personalized attention. We have pick-up and drop-off service to the airport. Depending on your choice, we will place you with a Costa Rican family, in a bed & breakfast or in a hotel. If you should choose a homestay with a Costa Rican family, your host will set aside a private room for you. A host family will provide you with a unique opportunity to practice your Spanish and to learn Costa Rican culture. Hotels and Bed & Brekfasts are available within walking distance for those who value their privacy.

Unlike other academies ours is American owned and managed. The director, Walt Reade, has an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Spanish from CUNY. Our teachers have either university degrees in Spanish and Linguistics, or they speak three or more languages.
